Introduction to the Higley Instrumental Program
Welcome parents to this new and exciting year for our kids in Higley’s instrumental music programs. We are looking forward to a fantastic year of music and performances. Welcome to the Higley family.
The Higley Instrumental Association (HIA) is a 501(3)c non-profit organization that provides support to Higley High School’s instrumental music programs. We are essentially the boosters.
While a traditional booster organization would exist to support a single program, HIA is here to support all instrumental music programs: Jazz Band, Concert/Symphonic Band, Marching Band/Color Guard and Winter Guard and Drumline.
Higley Instrumental Association encompasses both the HIA Executive Board and Parents involved in volunteering and fundraiser activities. We are all “Boosters”. While the Executive Board provides the strategy, direction and organization for boosting activities they cannot perform all of the work needed to support these programs alone. Parent involvement in boosting activities is critical for success.
All of our programs need some volunteer help at some point during the school year. A few examples are:
- Moving Pit instruments for Marching Band and Winter Drumline
- Chaperones for events away from the school
- Uniform Modifications (hemming)
- Manning stations at events hosted at the school (shows/competitions)
- Construction and Repairs of equipment
-Concession sales at HCPA events
HIA runs many fundraisers throughout the year to raise money to help where the school district cannot. Parents can be involved by either volunteering to help at a fundraiser or organizing or “Chairing” a fundraiser on behalf of HIA. Some examples of fundraisers we do throughout the year are:
- Car Washes as joint fundraiser with Student Club
- Running hosted events such as shows and competitions
- Car Show and Epic Thrift Store Fundraiser
- Concessions at special events
- Restaurant fundraisers (i.e. Chick Fil A night)
- Various catalog fundraisers (i.e. Pasta, Fudge)
Why you should get involved
Being involved with the HIA is a great way to continue being part of your child’s life outside of the home. Now that they are growing up, it seems they need/want less involvement from you. Being involved by volunteering or running fundraisers is a great way to stay involved and affect a positive influence on one of the activities your child is involved in.
You will also have the opportunity to meet many other great parents that believe in the benefits of music and arts. You may share similar interests with other parents and even develop some new friendships.
How can you get involved?
Every month (3rd Thursday@7:30pm in the Library) we have meetings open to all parents. At these meeting we discuss and approve volunteer needs and fundraising options with Mr. Sharp and the parents. The schedule for these meetings is published on our website http://www.higleyinstrumental.org/ you can also contact the executive board by emailing them at email@example.com.
How you can stay informed
Higley Instrumental Association tries to augment the Band Director’s communications by providing another avenue for announcements and information for all parents.
